Instagram Notes: What They Are and How to Use Them

Instagram Notes is a feature that allows you to share brief text updates (up to 60 characters) that appear at the top of your followers' DM inbox for 24 hours.

How to Create a Note

• Open the Instagram DM inbox
• Tap your profile picture at the top
• Type your message (60 character limit)
• Choose to share with Close Friends or all followers
• Tap Share

Creative Uses for Notes

• Share quick thoughts or mood updates
• Ask questions to start conversations
• Promote new content or stories
• Share music recommendations
• Tease upcoming announcements

Notes vs Stories

Unlike Stories, Notes are text-only and appear exclusively in the DM section. They're more intimate and conversation-starting than Stories. You can use the Close Friends feature to limit who sees your Notes.
